Our necks are built for playing comfort, exceptional performance, and long-term durability.
The back of the neck is rounded and profile tapered to follow the compound radiused fingerboard. The lower register is cut to a 12" radius and gradually flattens to a 15" radius in the upper register. The nickel alloy fretwire is substantial, with the peaks rising to an average of .050" above the fingerboard. The frets are hand cut parallel to the plane of the fingerboard, crowned and highly polished.
The headstock design provides the maximum practical string loading force at the fingerboard junction, and, with only one component of friction in the polished bone nut, the minimum string friction force. The ratio of string loading force to string friction force, or, the headstock force ratio (original equations for the headstock loading force ratio are derived step-by-step in the second edition of Bill Foley's Build Your Own Electric Guitar). The maximized loading force lowers the impedance for the transfer of longitudinal wave motion, thus improving the tonal characteristics of the instrument. The minimized string friction at the nut improves the tuning stability, which includes the lower register intonation on our Wave headstock necks.
The headstock and neck are constructed of one continuous length of joined maple for improved durability. The neck core is capped by an extra thick slab of fingerboard which is available in rosewood or maple. The truss rod adjusts from the heel of the neck with the common 9/32" hex wrench.
